Description
Basic introduction
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide based on an ACTH-derived fragment with a Pro-Gly-Pro extension. The XA5 and SX5 entries in this catalog are separate listings of the same named research compound, with their own available package options.
Preclinical studies have explored neurotrophin-related responses and gene expression in rodent brain preparations. These studies describe molecular and experimental endpoints; they are not evidence that a laboratory vial improves memory, mood or recovery in people.
Mechanism of action · Research context
ACTH-derived sequence
Semax is a defined seven-amino-acid peptide. Its relationship to an ACTH fragment provides a structural starting point, but should not be taken to mean that it reproduces all actions of intact ACTH.
BDNF-related responses
Rat hippocampal studies measured BDNF-related changes after Semax exposure. Researchers examined both transcript and protein-related endpoints, which capture different stages of a cellular response.
TrkB signaling
Neurotrophin signaling includes receptor activation as well as expression. The cited study examined TrkB phosphorylation, illustrating why an mRNA change alone is insufficient to characterize a signaling pathway.
Extended research considerations
Experimental context
Brain region, model and sampling time affect interpretation. A result from hippocampal tissue cannot automatically be assigned to every neuronal population or to a different injury model.
Sequence and batch comparison
Compare XA5 and SX5 by their actual documentation and selected package. Different catalog codes do not establish a biological difference, and identical names do not replace confirmation of batch identity.
Readout selection
Gene expression, protein abundance and functional behavior are distinct outcomes. A study plan should specify which of these it measures before interpreting a result as a broader neuronal effect.

A new trainee misread storage guidelines and put a vial in a frost-free freezer with temperature swings, causing permanent activity loss. I posted clear storage rules by the peptide shelf to prevent repeat errors.

My university lab needs individual HPLC purity papers for every vial for audit and paper submission. Support sent separate certified chromatogram reports for each bottle within 24 hours. All samples hit above 99% purity with no unknown impurities, so I skipped extra control tests for my research manuscript.

Buying the 10-vial pack on sale cuts my monthly lab supply cost a lot. Its steady 4.0–6.0 pH blends well with my standard cell liquid, I don’t need extra buffer to adjust pH before testing. Unopened vials stored dark and frozen stay fully effective for months with no color change. All glass bottles arrived intact with no damage during overseas delivery.

A lab intern left an unopened vial under lab lamps for two full days, its nerve repair effect dropped sharply after testing. After I moved all SX5 stock into opaque freezer boxes, my test repeatability improved a lot. Other peptide sellers never clearly remind users about light damage risks.

I’ve restocked SX5 monthly for 10 months straight, it’s my exclusive Semax peptide source for all neuroprotection and cognitive aging research. Stable ≥99% HPLC purity, strict dark frozen storage rules, two flexible vial sizes and consistent cross-batch performance solved all unreliable assay data issues I met with cheaper competing brands.
